Brazilian Yellow

Amazon Green evokes the planet's largest tropical rainforest. With roughly 10% of Earth's species, its layered canopy creates a green ocean that symbolizes Brazil's ecological identity.

Aztec Red comes from the cochineal insect—the most precious pre-Columbian American commodity. Aztecs collected white insects from cacti, dried and ground them for brilliant red dye, far superior to any European dye. Spanish conquerors brought it to Europe where it revolutionized red—British redcoats, French royal velvet, and papal robes all switched to cochineal. In the 16th-18th centuries, it was Mexico's second-largest export after silver. Today, cochineal red (E120) is still used in food and cosmetics—your red drink or lipstick may contain it.

Bauhaus Yellow is bright and direct, like the northern daylight pouring into Dessau workshops. Together with red and blue, it shaped posters, furniture, and architectural details, becoming one of the 20th century's most influential design languages.

Imperial Yellow was the exclusive color of Chinese emperors. Since Tang Dynasty founder Li Yuan, yellow became imperial. Zhao Kuangyin was draped in yellow at Chenqiao, founding the Song Dynasty. The Qing restricted bright yellow to the emperor, empress, and dowager. The Forbidden City's yellow roof tiles symbolize imperial centrality.

Kodak brought photography from professional darkrooms into everyday homes. Yellow appeared on film canisters and came to symbolize warm memories of the analog era. The little yellow box recorded countless birthdays, trips, and graduations.

IKEA's yellow shopping bag is one of the world's most common home-improvement symbols. Big, sturdy, and bright, it signals affordability, utility, and the possibility of transformation. Paired with blue, it makes IKEA stores instantly recognizable.
