Falu Red

Swedish Blue evokes the Baltic Sea, the archipelago, and endless summer skies. The yellow cross on a blue field is said to derive from the royal coat of arms, and the color appears in Midsummer wreaths, Dala horses, and IKEA products.

The Dala horse is Sweden's most famous handicraft, painted in bright orange, red, and green with floral saddle patterns. The color comes from 17th-century winter craft in Dalarna, where farmers carved horses for children during long nights.

Portugal is an ancient wine country; the terraced vineyards of the Douro Valley are a World Heritage site. Port wine is fortified with brandy during fermentation, retaining sweetness and a rich ruby color central to Portuguese tables and trade.

Rouge is one of China's oldest cosmetics. The Xiongnu people first made rouge from safflower, introduced to China by Zhang Qian's western mission. Tang Dynasty women applied rouge broadly across their cheeks. Yang Guifei's "sweat-tinted color" became a famous beauty anecdote.

On the East African savanna, Maasai people drape themselves in vivid red plaid shúkàs and live among lions and cattle. Red is both a visual marker and a practical color believed to deter predators. It has become one of Kenya's most vivid cultural symbols.

The Maluku Islands were once the Spice Islands, their nutmeg and cloves luring European powers. Chili later arrived and became the soul of Indonesian cuisine. Spice Red evokes Padang dishes, night-market satay, and a long trading history.
